Some of you may have come across "Billions", a hit drama series set in the world of high finance in New York. And if have, you're likely familiar with the character of Wendy Rhoades who plays a high-performance coach to Bobby Axelrod, the show's primary protagonist and a titan of the hedge fund world. While obviously a story of fiction, the show remains largely accurate in the type of personas and behaviours portrayed; and specifically in the case of Bobby, his deep need for Wendy's coaching. (If you haven't already, worth a watch) Now I'd like to let you in on a little secret. One that, like the hit show, is true for some of the very best executives and entrepreneurs I know. Despite the secrecy that often surrounds it, advisors play a pivotal role in sustaining peak performance among high achievers (you just may never know it!). As you climb in role and responsibility, you'll inevitably face unique challenges that demand unbiased guidance. Mentors provide a safe space for candid discussions, free from internal politics or personal agendas, offering invaluable perspectives and constructive criticism.
But here's the thing: growth doesn't stop just because you've made it to the top. Mentors help keep that fire burning by exposing you to new ideas, trends, and strategies you might not have considered. It's all about staying ahead of the curve.
And let's not forget about those tough times we all face; especially in times of uncertainty, as we are currently witnessing (largely referring to significant layoffs and the disruption of industries by AI). Having a mentor in your corner can make all the difference. They're there to offer support, encouragement, and a much-needed dose of perspective when things get rocky.
As you enter the weekend, reflect on the power of this idea. After all, it could be the missing piece that takes your career to new heights.
You've got this!

🎉 Client win of the week
I'm celebrating my client who has made incredible traction in her job search for her next C-level role. Following a year long sabbatical, she's been doubling down on my strategies and opening up incredible doors to her dream roles. She now positioned herself to have options to choose from (both of which would be 100% in line with work she loves to do). Doesn't get much better than that! As a peak performer, you don't chase opportunities. You create them!
