I want to let you in on a secret of mine: what I fear most is not living up to my fullest potential.
​
And here's something I've come to learn thanks to incredible mentors and an inner circle that pushes me to achieve my greatest potential, even if I don't always see it for myself: there’s no such thing as too late.

It’s natural to compare your career progress to others. Maybe you feel you haven’t achieved your goals this year. But here's the thing. You define what success means for yourself. No one else.

I routinely meet high-achievers who share thoughts such as "I thought I'd have secured [X] by [Y] date" or "I should be earning [X] by now". But these expectations are often shaped more by others, and chasing them can lead you to unnecessary stress and misplaced happiness.

So here are a few tips to embrace your own timeline:

β†’ Define success for yourself: Focus on what matters to you, aka your values, vs. others' expectations.
β†’ Review unmet goals: Identify the goals you didn’t reach and plan small, next steps to achieve them.
β†’ Practice self-compassion. Celebrate your progress and allow yourself to grow without judgment.

No matter where you are now, you're one small decision from building positive momentum for yourself.

Let go of the pressure to keep up with others and focus on what makes you fulfilled.

The Context: Prior to working together, my ​Career Success Fast Trackℒ​ client had been passed over for an internal promotion he really wanted. It had ended with a panel interview that didn't land the way he hoped for. He lost confidence to go after another internal promotion and questioned how he would do things differently.

​The Success: He applied for his dream internal role, showed up to his final panel interview fully prepared and confident, and just received his verbal offer this week!
​
​The Strategy: Through my coaching support and his mock interview session with Amanda, our talent acquisition expert, he built the right narrative and presentation deck, levelled up his leadership skills and storytelling, and showcased his strategic vision in a way that resonated with his decision-makers best. He took all of our feedback and made the presentation more role-specific, with relevant stories and examples. He also added transitions and visual cues so he didn't have to use his notes as a crutch. This allowed him to connect better with his audience and feel much more natural. His exact words coming out of the interview were "word on the street is that I crushed it". Let's go!
