The concept of compound interest isnβt just a financial principle; it applies perfectly to the importance of building meaningful connections. And now, more than ever, this idea holds considerable weight. β Think about it. The value you give and the trust you earn, to and from others, multiply over the years exponentially. β The peak performers who really make it big? Those that attract opportunities strategically and build relationships that last? They choose their crowd carefully because who you know, and who knows you, can open doors you never even considered possible. β β No matter your stage in your career, intentionally cultivate your social capital. Done right, it will grow significantly with time. Here are 3 key reasons why prioritizing your social capital is so significant. β ββ Access to opportunities not accessible or 'advertised' through traditional channels. This is not just limited to new job opportunities. This applies to key projects and further access to specific individuals. ββ β Diverse perspectives which cultivate an insightful worldview, enriching your communication, storytelling and problem-solving skills. ββ β Support and advocacy by influential decision-makers who can impact your career progression, even when you're not 'in the rooms that matter'. Always remind yourself that people make decisions about your professional track within your organization.
So think carefully about the people you surround yourself with and seek out a core group that drives you forward. Remember, it's this circle that will uncover opportunities that help unlock your full potential. β You've got this!

The Context: Prior to working together, my βCareer Success Fast Trackβ’β client had been struggling to secure her internal promotion at her company. She had been passed over for 5 promotions over the last several years, but still felt really compelled to grow there and make it work. β βThe Success: She did a complete 180 with her divisional President who was the main blocker on her advancement decisions. So much so, her President has now become her biggest advocate in opening up internal opportunities to her. This led to her getting fast tracked for 2 internal opportunities she's very excited about with full endorsement from her President. Plus, she's been keeping doors open and attracting external interviews as well with her newfound confidence. β βThe Strategy: We focused on identifying the main internal stakeholder who was blocking her internal moves. We put together a script with her key messages to have a 1:1 with her divisional President founded on vulnerability, transparency and a willingness for feedback. Her President was so pleased by the conversation that, within just 1 week's time, she initiated conversations on behalf of my client with other department leaders to consider her actively for 2 internal openings and now things are well in motion!
